Preparing for a CBT Test

Are you getting ready to take the Compulsory Basic Training test? This means you are about to become a two-wheel vehicle rider. It isn’t as dangerous as it used to be considering that the technology for safety helmets and clothing has greatly improved; however, don’t forget that there are still other drivers, riders and pedestrians sharing the road with you.

A CBT test is designed with your safety in mind. It has 5 sections that focus on both riding theory and road safety skills. If you want to successfully pass, you should learn what each of these things are in detail when preparing for a CBT test.

The CBT Exam

The exam takes place over the course of a day, and it entails the following five sections:

ï€¬ The Introduction and eye exam
ï€¬ On site training
ï€¬ On site riding
ï€¬ On road training
ï€¬ On road riding

The Introduction and Eye Exam

This is pretty basic. Someone explains why people take the test, what you can do once you pass the test and how long the process takes. Someone will verify your license, give you an exam and explain the legalities of riding on a two-wheel vehicle. In addition, you’ll have to fill out more paperwork. If you don’t have your own gear, don’t worry. It’s provided.

On Site Training

The instructor will show you how the bike works. You’ll have the chance to get used to the bike while walking around in a big open space. This gives you a chance to learn how it feels and rides. Also, you’ll learn how to use the side stand.

On Site Riding

When the instructor is confident that you’re ready, he’ll allow you to start the engine. He will watch and analyze you ride in straight lines, go around corners and start and stop the bike. He’ll then test your riding ability by asking you to ride a circuit. This allows you to get accustomed to how it rides and handles.

On Road Training

Once you feel comfortable riding about in the open space, you will go to a classroom setting to learn about the theory of road riding. It includes the Highway Code, how to ride a bike legally, road positions and other important aspects of preparing for a CBT test.

On Road Riding

This is the fun part of the test where you finally get to ride on the road. Your instructor will give you a radio so that he can ride behind you and talk to you at the same time. This section of the test is normally about 120 minutes. The instructor wants to analyze your riding skills and make sure that you’re competent enough to ride on the open road. This includes knowing road rules and following safety protocol.

All in all, this is what you can expect when preparing for a CBT test.
